From Rochester to Richmond

Work experience student from Rochester, Tim Murray, spent a week at our Redhanded office. Below, Tim offers his perspective on his time spent with us.

I’ve never written a blog post before, and thanks to the opportunities that the people at Redhanded have given me, this week has seen a lot of firsts for me.

This week of work experience has seen me gaining and using a lot of new skills, from designing concepts for a pop-up shop, to recording audio for a commercial. I have learnt so much about this industry. I’m from the country and I would never have been able to get an experience like this from anywhere other than the city, so it is quite fitting that the people giving me this experience are indeed, the voice connecting city and country.

Redhanded has a focus on rural and regional Australia and being from the country, I have always been partially a target for much of their advertising; if not me then definitely my father and the other farmers from around the region. So for me, it has been incredibly interesting to see all the work that goes into sending a message to them, me and you.

Being here at Redhanded has shown me that I want to go into media, advertising and entertainment and that I shouldn’t be scared of having to come to the city. I should be excited about the future that I could have in a place like this. I am so grateful for the opportunities that everyone here at Redhanded has given me, to learn and see inside the industry.

I’m a year 11 student at Rochester Secondary Collage, a public school with over 400 students. Rochester is an agriculture town servicing the local area filled with farms – mostly dairy, tomatoes and lucerne for hay. At the moment, I’m on my year 11 school camp. It consists of the entire year level (50 or 60 students) going down to Melbourne for a week to do work experience at the place of our choosing, and that is why I am at Redhanded. The experience of being in the city being on my own, doing things by myself without teachers and parents planning our days is a taste of reality that has changed all of us who came down on this camp.

I would like to thank Redhanded for the things they have done for me. Allowing me to see the fantastic, inspiring work that they do, and all the skill and talent that goes into making it.
